Hi. Welcome back to Blush Insight. At first glance, you might be giving me the side eye. Mary Kay opportunity? Is this a sales pitch? No. Today I want to have a conversation with you about what I do and how you can do it to.
What I do
In the Mary Kay world, I am called a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant, or MKIBC for short. I help people like you find products for your skin that meet your needs and make you happy. Because Mary Kay uses a direct sales business model, I do not have a store front in a mall or anything like that. I meet people, share what I do, and offer them a chance to try the products.
What is the Mary Kay Opportunity?
It is a chance to run your own business on your terms. You can run it entirely online like I do, or you can run it in person on the ground. You can do both online and in-person.
How the MK Opportunity works
As an independent beauty consultant, I run the business how I want and as I see fit. You might have wondered how I can have a blog instead of going door to door. This is the beauty of the Mary Kay Opportunity. I use the flexibility given to me to run a business at a level that is comfortable for me.
How it works specifically is that you sign up with an independent consultant. When I signed up, I let my Mary Kay lady know that I wanted to sign up, and she sent me the information to do so. You can also go to the website and list your Mary Kay lady. While signing up, there are options for your starter materials. You can start with little more than the Mary Kay website they offer you. You can also invest in inventory (products) and have them on hand for your friends, family, and clients.
I started off with the basic inventory to carry around to parties along with a lot of samples. Samples are a great business tool because they are free and give others the chance to try without paying. Honestly, this is how I got hooked on Mary Kay. My IBC gave me a sample for the Timewise set. I liked it a lot but didn’t want to pay the prices for it because I was a cheap customer at the time.
IBC Perks
One perk of running your own Mary Kay business is that you can get all the products for 50%. You must be an active beauty consultant which means you buy a certain amount of product every 3 months. Honestly, if you have a good network, it is not that hard to make that much.
Mary Kay works hard to make sure you have what you need to succeed. You can talk with the lady you signed up with or talk to her director. Some of them hold weekly meetings where you can learn about the latest products coming out or get sales advice. The Mary Kay website for consultants provides video education, training which results in badges demonstrating your expertise, promotion materials, apps for on-the-go sales, and rewards for the amount of sales made per month.
The opportunity is flexible. I personally work at a company which does not allow me to sell there. Since I started during Covid times, creating a network was very difficult. With a full-time job and a child, meeting people is very difficult, but I do have time to write and use the network I built while doing direct sales. I still do a bit of direct sales when I have time and opportunity to do so.
What’s the catch?
If there are any drawbacks to the Mary Kay Opportunity, it is based on what you value. Mary Kay is a multi-level Media marketing company. When you join, you get 50% at most. If you team build you get commission through your team’s sales. Like anything worth doing, it requires some time and hard work. I heard of a lady who ran her business using one hour a week. Other’s go after it and make tons of sales. If something comes up and you can’t do it anymore, Mary Kay will buy your products back up to 90%.
How to get started
If you would like to get started, check out this page on my website. Click on Sell Mary Kay. It has all the info you need to make an informed and confident decision. If you like a more personal approach and want to chat about it first, send me a note or use my info on my website to contact me. We can meet via video chat or phone. I do get spam from time to time so please mention this blog post when you reach out. Alternatively, you can sign up using my name. I will likely reach out for an initial conversation because I care about the people who join my team.
I would love to talk to you. Meeting people, building relationships, and getting to help are my rewards for being here doing this.
